The department sent a letter outlining the consequences of continuing diversity, equity, and inclusion, according to President Trump’s executive order.
The Department of Education wrote a letter to all colleges and universities continuing to pursue various diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, pledging to revoke federal funding if they do not abandon these policies.
“The [Education] Department intends to take appropriate measures to assess compliance with the applicable statutes and regulations based on the understanding embodied in this letter beginning no later than 14 days from today’s date, including antidiscrimination requirements that are a condition of receiving federal funding,” the department stated. “Institutions that fail to comply with federal civil rights law may, consistent with applicable law, face potential loss of federal funding.”
President Donald Trump signed an executive order on his first day in office called “Ending Radical And Wasteful Government DEI Programs And Preferencing,” which terminated all DEI policies within the federal government. This order extends to higher education institutions that rely on federal funding.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For the president and administration officials as they seek to return higher education to a merit-based system.
- For wisdom for the president and his advisors as they make policies and take action.
